1. Judges 7:15 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is noteworthy about the verb “to worship”?

Judges 7:15 (ESV)

15 As soon as Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped. And he returned to the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the LORD has given the host of Midian into your hand.”

This verse is the only location in the book where the verb to bow down, to worship describes an Israelite’s response to Yahweh. In its only two other occurrences (Judges 2:12, Judges 2:17) it describes Israel’s response to pagan gods.1
