The cup of God’s fury is bottomless. Sin is so vile in his holy sight (Habakkuk 1:13), rebellion against him so offensive to him, that there can be no end to the torment that his justice requires. The smoke of Sodom and Gomorrah went up (Genesis 19:28) for a brief period; the smoke of this torment continues forever.
11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”
