Daniel does not give up. The LORD works in him to persevere in faith. After Ashpenaz’s refusal, he ventures to approach the chamberlain assigned to them with the same request. It is notable that the Holy Spirit does not use the Babylonian names of the four friends. They are called by the names they were given as children of God’s covenant. In this we see the Spirit saying, “I will see to it that these young men are not ‘Babylonized’. I will keep them in this world as God’s children.“
