We can see that God overrules events for the advancement of his plan with his people and with this world. He pours out his blessing and grace on Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah so that when they are presented before the king they stand out in insight and wisdom above all the powerful magicians and conjurers present in the great empire of Nebuchadnezzar. The wisdom that comes from the Lord is true wisdom and genuine insight that no one can match. These men's wisdom is not from the stars, nor from incantations, nor from idols, but from the living Lord. Even this pagan ruler the world sees this when he listens to these four Judean men. We read that the king considered them ten times more excellent than the others, not just in some respects but in everything.
The Lord takes care of Daniel and his friends in a very special way. In this we can also see the gracious faithfulness of God to his people. The way to Christ as the Redeemer has to remain open. Here God is already working on the promised return to the land of Israel for the faithful portion of his people.
20 And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.
