1. 2 Peter 1:2 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter refer to the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord?

2 Peter 1:2 (ESV)

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Most likely Peter uses the term knowledge to refer to personal knowledge of God, life in fellowship with him. Because they have fellowship with him, he can pray for grace and peace to be theirs in abundance. The fact that God is differentiated from Jesus means that God should be understood as a reference to God the Father.1
