Peter has already referred to knowledge in 2 Peter 1:2 where his focus was on God and Jesus our Lord. Likely he has this same knowledge in view. Knowing God and living in fellowship with him result in righteous conduct marked by self-restraint (2 Peter 1:6) whereas ignorance of God and lust go hand in hand (1 Peter 1:14).1 Knowledge of Christ is thus not limited to knowing who he is or what he has done but includes an appropriate response to that reality.2
