1 Thessalonians 4:1 (ESV)

1 Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.

This is the start of a new subsection in the letter where rules regarding the Christian life are given. All members of the church in Thessalonica are addressed. The Greek word here for brothers (ἀδελφοί) refers to both men and women.

This section is not about human rules, but it is the Lord Jesus himself who urgently encourages a Christian and holy life. In this way the Thessalonians can please God. The highest goal that a Christian can achieve is to bring joy to God (see Malachi 3:4; Luke 15:7). A human being cannot imagine something more beautiful or more elevated than this. Through this, life receives the deepest meaning about which Jesus once said, I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

The members of the church in Thessalonica are already on the right track and are therefore encouraged to put even more effort in to visibly show in their everyday life (the Greek word for walk (περιπατεῖν) refers to concrete, daily life) that they are followers of Jesus.
