The way Nebuchadnezzar speaks of Daniel also shows that the king is still governed by pagan thought. When Daniel enters, the king of Babylon uses the name Belteshazzar.
Nebuchadnezzar does not acknowledge the Lord as his god. The idol Bel is still his god. Nor does he accept the fact that it is only the Lord who is working through Daniel. He speaks of Daniel as a man in whom the “spirit of the holy gods” dwells.
8 At last Daniel came in before me he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods and I told him the dream, saying,
