Who was the queen of Sheba?

1 Kings 10:1 (ESV)

1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions.

She is not from Ethiopia in Africa, but from Arabia—a region known for its wisdom. An example of another wise Arab is Agur whom we encounter in the Bible (see Proverbs 30:1). Sheba is in Arabia. It is the area that is now called Yemen. It is south of Palestine and therefore Jesus calls the queen of Sheba “the queen of the south” in Luke 11:31. The treasury of the wisdom of the world had been opened, so to speak, to see whether the wisdom of the king of God is indeed so extraordinary.
