The common salvation that was given to us begins with God the Creator of the universe. It begins with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit conspiring to create the world and everything that is in it. Then it moves on to the human being, being placed in this world in perfection. It includes the rebellion of Adam and Eve. It includes the promises of God which came immediately, and how God—in his providence over millennia—worked out his promises. And finally, Jesus Christ came into the world and lived a perfect life. He went to the cross and bore the sins of many: dying on that cross and being buried, rising again from the dead, ascending into heaven, and sitting at the right hand of God the Father. This is the salvation and the story of the Book. It is the story of the Bible. It is a tremendous story and it does not disregard anything. It is a full story; it is a comprehensive story and it is common to people who know and follow Jesus Christ.1

3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
