Those who pursue virtue will show themselves to be true believers in Christ and thus they will be welcomed by Christ into his eternal kingdom. With this statement Peter is not teaching a doctrine of salvation by works but salvation with works.1 He has the full realization of the kingdom of Christ in view (cf. Daniel 7:27; Luke 1:33; Revelation 11:15). This kingdom has already come near (Mark 1:15) and it is the place where God rules, the fullness of which will be seen in the future upon Christ’s royal return.2
11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
