Daniel 2:48 (ESV)

48 Then the king gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar remains a pagan. He is a powerful pagan used by God to punish his people for their sins and to bring his covenant punishment upon his people. The Lord directs history in such a way that Daniel is able to explain the king’s dream. As a result, as a boy of about 15 years of age, he gains tremendous prestige at the court. He now receives a very high position there. He is made the chief prefect of all the wise men at the court.  Daniel becomes one of the most important and influential people in the court of the world ruler at that time.
