What is El-Berith?

Judges 9:46 (ESV)

46 When all the leaders of the Tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered the stronghold of the house of El-berith.

This is an alternative name for Baal-berith, the god of Shechem (Judges 8:33; Judges 9:4). El and Baal are both names of Canaanite deities.1
