Daniel 5:9 (ESV)

9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly alarmed, and his color changed, and his lords were perplexed.

When the king hears that not even his top scholars can help him, he turns pale as a ghost. Everyone in the room is filled with fear.

The same will happen on the day the Lord Jesus returns. Then the world, the unbelievers, will stand filled with fear on the earth. Even the powerful on the earth who have not sought their lives with Christ, will be terribly afraid. In desolate fear they will seek protection in dens and caves. Then they will cry out in agony to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand (Revelation 6:16–17)?

The Lord shows Belshazzar that he exists and that he is not to be trifled with.
