The duty to call others to fear God

Zephaniah 1:7–13 (ESV)

7 Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is near; the LORD has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.

Zephaniah called his hearers to silence before the Lord (Zephaniah 1:7), the One who will come in wrath. We may join that call today, for all who are outside of Christ. For them, the day of the Lord is day of destruction (Isaiah 66:15–16; 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9; Hebrews 10:27; 2 Peter 3:7). Zephaniah’s call is even more urgent today, since we live in the last days before Christ’s return. The call to fear God must be there alongside the preaching of the good news, that Christ is the only Saviour who can protect us in the day of God’s vengeance.
