Most likely Peter uses the plural to refer to the gospel proclamation that was mediated through prophets and apostles (2 Peter 3:2). Peter stands in the company of those who make authoritative and inspired proclamations.1 Even though Peter did not personally establish the churches to whom he is writing, they were founded on the apostolic tradition and teaching—the same doctrines that he has been communicating.2
