The book 2 Peter is an encouragement for God’s church to continue persevering in the Christian life on the basis of God’s promises. He wants us to know that God’s promises are sure, so that we will give ourselves to good works rather than indulging our sinful desires. We must not be taken in by those who say there is no judgment and therefore we may live as we please.
Your fifth sermon from 2 Peter will give you a chance to explain the phenomenon of false teachers and why they can be found in churches today. Your aim is to warn God’s people, so that they will be on their guard. This will include encouraging them to stay away from TV channels such as TBN where almost any and every preacher is allowed to share their opinion. You might also like to consider sources of false teaching in your area (e.g., newspapers or radio) where one needs to be cautious. Along with warnings, you should also encourage God’s people to submit to Christ as Lord because he is their Saviour. Consider some of the areas in your life and the life of the church where you serve where people are reluctant to obey Christ.
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
