The clause, I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal,
points up how drastic the Lord's action would be: not even a remnant will be left. It was a characteristic of the Lord’s covenant chastisement of his people that he did not totally exterminate them, but left a remnant. Had it not been for this, their fate would have been no different from that of Sodom and Gomorrah…. For those who worship Baal there will be no remnant spared.
