Revelation of God the Father

2 Peter 2:4–10 (ESV)

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment;

What does 2 Peter 2:4-10a reveal about who God the Father is? God is just. He does not spare anyone from his judgment—neither the angels, the ancient world, the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, nor the false teachers.

God acts in history. Examples of past intervention demonstrate that this world has not been made by God and left to run by itself. He intervenes, he acts. He knows how to preserve his people and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment.

God is powerful. He is stronger than the angels; they are subject to him. He can cause a flood to destroy life. He can rain down fire to destroy cities.
