What does it mean to revel in the daytime?

2 Peter 2:13 (ESV)

13 suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you.

The Bible is not against feasting and enjoying fellowship with other people. Normally such feasting would take place after a day's work in which case it is was entirely appropriate. However, when done during the day, it speaks of a neglect of duties and responsibilities.1 Additionally, Peter could be making a statement about the heretics’ lack of shame. Where the pagan culture at the time considered night to be a time for drunkenness and gluttony (see Romans 13:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:7), the heretics' desire for pleasure means that they have no qualms engaging in debauched living, even in the day. Their actions demonstrate a lack of public shame.2
