2 Peter 2:10–16 (ESV)

10 and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones,

Along with highlighting the behaviour of the heretics, Peter has once again affirmed that they will most certainly face judgment. They will perish like beasts (2 Peter 2:12). They will be paid back for the harm they have done (2 Peter 2:13). Like Balaam they are mad to think that God is unconcerned about their behaviour (2 Peter 2:16).

The certainty of judgment that comes on those who persevere in sin and unbelief should be seen as a warning to us. We must not think that we can live as we please and there will be no consequences. God wants us to be holy. He wants us to make every effort to pursue godliness (2 Peter 1:5). When we see Christians who live in ways that are contrary to God’s Word, that reality must not make us think that it is acceptable for us to do the same.
