Sermon goal for 2 Peter 3:11-13

2 Peter 3:11–13 (ESV)

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,

2 Peter is an encouragement for God’s church to continue persevering in the Christian life on the basis of God’s promises. He wants us to know that God’s promises are sure so that we will give ourselves to good works rather than indulging our sinful desires. We must not be taken in by those who say there is no judgment and therefore we may live as we please.

This sermon on 2 Peter will ideally be full of encouragement for believers to pursue holy living in the here and now. To start with, you will want to explain the reasons and motivations for why we must pursue holy living and then it will be good if you can give lots of clear examples of practical changes that we can/ought to make in our lives. What does holy living look like in marriage? What does godly living look like when it comes to parenting, the way we spend our money, the way we use our bodies, our language, etc.?
