Why is it of first importance
(1 Corinthians 15:3) that Christ was buried? Because it is his buried body that was resurrected. His burial confirms that his death and his resurrection were real, bodily events.
When it comes to the third main point of the gospel, there is again an emphasis on the historic reality of the bodily resurrection. On a specific day, the third day,
Christ’s body was raised from the grave. Like his death, his resurrection too was in accordance with the Scriptures
(see also Luke 24:44–46).
When Peter proclaimed the resurrection, he made use of Psalm 16:1–11 (Acts 2:24–32). Psalm 2:1–12, Isaiah 55:3, and Psalm 16:1–11 were some of Paul’s resurrection texts
(Acts 13:32–37). Isaiah 53:1–12 (specifically Isaiah 53:10–12) is another part of the Scriptures
that clearly points to Christ’s resurrection. For Old Testament allusions to the third day,
see Hosea 6:2 and Jonah 1:17 (see further Matthew 12:40).
