In this verse we are given the second and third differences between the buried body and the resurrected body. The second difference is that of dishonor
versus glory.
The biblical view of death is predominantly negative. Death was not part of God’s good creation. Death is a curse that God has placed on his creation, due to Adam’s sin (Genesis 3:17–19). As men and women we were created in the image of God and crowned with glory (Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 8:5–8). For us to die and become dust again is a great humiliation. It is to suffer dishonor.
But with the resurrection the dishonor
of death will be replaced with glory.
Believers’ bodies will be glorified and united to their souls (which, at the time of their death, was glorified and taken to heaven; see Luke 23:43; Philippians 1:23).
The third difference is that between weakness
and power.
When the soul leaves the body, the body is left completely powerless. But when God raises the body, it will have previously unknown vitality and strength.
43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
