1 Corinthians 15:36 (ESV)

36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.

In the Bible a fool is a person who has no fear of God and is therefore unable to grasp the truth about God or about his creation. Paul uses this word to describe the person who denies the resurrection just because he (or she) cannot understand how it is possible.

In answering the foolish person’s questions (1 Corinthians 15:35), Paul takes his readers to the world of plants. A seed disintegrates when it is sown. From this death comes life: the life of a new plant which can grow and bear more seed. Jesus used this imagery when speaking of his own death and resurrection (John 12:23–25).

The second verb is written in the passive form and can literally be translated as made alive. This indicates that it is God who gives life to disintegrated seeds (and to decayed bodies).
