The fierce wrath of God

Amos 8:7–9 (ESV)

7 The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

Land rising and falling—that is an earthquake. The sun going down at noon—that is regular life turned completely upside down. Our God’s point is clear: O my people, do not downplay! Not only will it happen, but it will be horrible!

Pondering these words, we cannot help but think of what happened on Good Friday when our Saviour was hung on the cross. There was an earthquake and at noon the sun was blocked and it turned dark for three hours. Our Lord endured this fierce wrath of God in our place and for our sake.
