Peter wants believers to remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and given by the apostles (2 Peter 3:2). This involves understanding that there will be false teachers in the last days (2 Peter 3:3) and also not overlooking certain things (2 Peter 3:8). With this term he is connecting what he is about to say with what he has said before (2 Peter 3:4–7). His concern is not that believers will forget due to rebellion but rather due to the confusion that the false teachers have sowed in their minds.1
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
