Peter makes a direct reference to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour in 2 Peter 3:2. He is the King who will return in glory. He is also the Saviour who can rescue God’s people from the wrath to come. The certainty of God’s judgment on the ungodly is a clear focus of 2 Peter 3:1–7 and thus it makes sense to point out how Christ can save us from this judgment and that he will bring this judgment on those who reject him.
