Scoffers (mockers) are found throughout the Old Testament (Psalm 1:1; Psalm 35:16; Proverbs 1:22; Proverbs 9:7–8; Proverbs 13:1; Proverbs 14:6; Proverbs 19:25, Proverbs 19:29). They are people who attempt to bring shame upon someone.1 In this instance they are driven by evil desires. Most likely, the root of the false teachers’ objections to the return of Christ are thus not intellectual but moral; they do not want the Bible to be true.2
3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.
