We can distinguish three parts to this chapter. There is first the introduction that sets the stage for the totality of the vision of fallen Babylon (Revelation 17:3 – 19:10); this introduction is Revelation 17:1–2. The second section provides a detailed description of the vision John saw depicting Babylon the great (Revelation 17:3–6), detailing why she is worthy of judgment. The third section is the angel’s explanation of how God brings about her fall (Revelation 17:7–18). This latter section has in turn two subparts: Revelation 17:7–14 relates matters concerning the beast; Revelation 17:15–18 relates matters concerning the prostitute.
