That one of the same angels that featured in chapter 16 now draws John’s attention to this new vision indicates that there is a link between the material of chapter 16 and the new vision of chapter 17. We are not told which angel led John on his new tour, and so we cannot link this new vision to any specific bowl/plague. Nevertheless, with the outpouring of the last bowl, “God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath” (Revelation 16:19) The angel of Revelation 17:1 takes John along to show him just how God intends to make Babylon the great do so.
