What is the significance of leaving the prostitute “naked”?

Revelation 17:16 (ESV)

16 And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire,

When John first saw the woman, she was “arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls” (Revelation 17:4), a woman of status commanding respect. Such is their disgust of the prostitute that the beast and the horns (= the powerful) leave her naked, exposed to the elements of the wilderness, with no shred of royalty or standing remaining. The nakedness she celebrated will become her shame. This is the sort of penalty that the Lord God had announced upon adulterous Israel on account of her whoring behaviour (Ezekiel 16:37, Ezekiel 16:39; Ezekiel 23:26).
