He was able to express himself in this way because God was his strength. The strength that God gave to him was not a physical ability to overcome something. Rather it was the inner belief that God was his sufficiency who would carry him and his people through the hardship of losing their crops and cattle.
The words, he makes my feet like the deer’s,
indicated that God would enable him to stand firm and be resolute even while the situation and circumstances around him were collapsing. God would also enable him to tread on the high places meaning that he would rise above his struggles and not be defeated by them.
Habakkuk commenced his prayer by referring to a musical note in the word, Shigionoth.
He ended it by saying that it was to be given to the choirmaster to be used as a means to worship God. It was to be prayed by them to express the splendour of God who, as their warrior, would defeat their enemy and save them.
19 GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.
