Eve turns out to be the one who names Seth. Genesis 4:1 already suggested that she also gave Cain his name. Incidentally, this was not without Adam (Genesis 5:3). It is important to note here the role of the woman in marriage. In later times the woman will suffer more and more from the punishment of Genesis 3:16 (male domination), but that is not what God intended when he gave Adam his helper (Genesis 2:21–22). Here the woman appears to play an important role. Naming is of great significance in life! Eve turns out to be a person with her own role in family and marriage, someone who thinks independently and draws conclusions that are followed by her husband. In this way marriage enriches the man’s life, according to God’s intention (see again Genesis 2:21–22).
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.”
