It is a time when Egypt’s power and authority extends over other regions as well. In those areas, resistance to Egypt is also growing. We read in this verse that it will be a time where many will rise up against Egypt.
A part of Canaan also falls within this power area of Egypt during this time. There too, people will revolt against Egypt. The Lord is not positive about these people. He calls them violent
people. They are fierce and are trying to fulfill a vision. It seems that some false prophet will arise and present a prophecy that they will be completely free as a people in that time. It seems that these people believe that they themselves will then have to ensure this. They are not waiting on the Lord.
The Lord then shows in the course of history that this is a false prophecy, for the rebels are crushed.
14 “In those times many shall rise against the king of the south, and the violent among your own people shall lift themselves up in order to fulfill the vision, but they shall fail.
