Psalm 1:2 speaks about delighting in God's law and meditating on it day and night. We are all good at stewing on harsh things people say about us sometimes. We replay what they said over and over in our minds. Well, that is what we ought to do with God's Word. That is what mediation is—stewing, in a good way, over God's Word, making sure that it sticks day and night. Is that how you read your Bible, with delightful mediation? Or do you read your Bible with dutiful monotony and boredom? If it is dutiful boredom, then we have missed the point. You are almost better off not reading at all. What is the point, to read God's Word and simply forget what you read or not take anything you read to heart? The goal is that the Word will stick with us day and night, so that whatever circumstances we are in, we can draw strength from the challenges, promises, and encouragements of his Word. There we come to know our God, his love for us. There we discover our Saviour, what he has done for us and how he continues to show us his love as he rules on high for us and for our good.
