Praying for boldness in the midst of hardship

Psalm 2:1–12 (ESV)

1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

When conspiracy and persecution loom large, God's people pray for boldness to our sovereign Lord. That is what the believers in Acts 4 realized. They had been threatened. They were forbidden to speak about Jesus. This was a conspiracy to silence God. So what did the people do? They did not stay silent. They could not. They had to speak. So they turned to God, who in his sovereignty brought this all about, and they prayed. Acts 4:29, Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. May that be our prayer when faced with threats, faced with persecution and hardship because of our faith, when attempts are made to silence God. And may the Lord answer that prayer and so fill us with his Spirit to boldly serve him, to boldly speak!
