Frankincense (lᵉḇōnāh) was an aromatic gum that covered any unpleasant aromas of the offering in the fire. It was often used for ritual activities in the temple (Leviticus 24:7; Exodus 30:34). It is also likely that frankincense was used by Aaron when entering the Holy of Holies (Leviticus 16:12). The symbolism of frankincense reflects that the wrath of God has been appeased.
