Peter uses the phrase “to a living hope” to describe the world one enters as a result of being born again. The term “hope” does not describe a wish (as in, I hope the weather will be nice tomorrow
), but describes a conviction based on God’s own promises, to which he is always faithful. This hope is “a living hope” precisely because it is life-giving, as life outside the womb is life-giving, is hopeful, gives space to grow and develop so as to be truly alive. That is also why Peter connects this hope to “the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
