Luke mentions a crowd of women who followed Jesus and listened to him during his earthly ministry (Luke 8:1–3). These women were also present to witness his death and resurrection (Mark 15:40–41, Mark 15:47; Mark 16:1–8) and likely they included some of the apostles’ wives.1 Jesus' brothers are named in Mark 6:3 as James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. We can assume that they were all present, a big change having come about in their attitude to Jesus, whom they initially rejected (see Mark 3:20–21, Mark 3:31–35; John 7:1–9).2
14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
