If a person who was unclean ate the peace offering, he was to be “cut off” (krt) from his people. This is the first occurrence of the krt penalty in the book of Leviticus. It is the punishment associated with the breaking of the covenant (see Genesis 17:14). Such a person claimed to have peace with God while violating his laws. This judgment was a direct intervention of God.
20 but the person who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of the LORD’s peace offerings while an uncleanness is on him, that person shall be cut off from his people.
