Zephaniah 2:1–3 (ESV)

1 Gather together, yes, gather, O shameless nation,

The only refuge in the awful day of God’s wrath is found in Christ. The writer to the Hebrews says, Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.… We have confidence…by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through…his body (Hebrews 10:17, Hebrews 10:19–20). To Christ as shelter we may run, and be free of fear of the final judgment of the world!

The alternative is to disregard Jesus’ blood and to insult the Spirit of grace. This, for the child of the covenant, will result in a more severe punishment (Hebrews 10:29). As in Zephaniah, God’s day of wrath will expose those who have and those who have not wholly trusted the Lord with their hearts and actions.1
