After the husband has said that his one wife’s love is enough for him, he calls on his wife to also openly express that she loves him.
She is now addressed as the woman who is in her garden (see also Song of Solomon 4:12; Song of Solomon 5:1; Song of Solomon 6:11). She has also already called herself a beautiful flower (Song of Solomon 2:1. Her husband had earlier called her a lily (Song of Solomon 2:2). He has compared her to a palm tree (Song of Solomon 7:7–8). The husband calls upon her, who is herself a beautiful garden, to be heard from. The friends are all ears and listen with excitement to what she says.
It will be so good when the friends hear it from her own mouth. It is good when you hear and see from people who are married that they love each other very much. It is good and important that married people in Christ’s church radiate that in this world; that they show how good it is to live together in real love in marriage.
Then follows the wife’s response.
13 O you who dwell in the gardens, with companions listening for your voice; let me hear it.
