Psalm 46:2–3 (ESV)

2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

The poet wanted to use the most impressive language to describe God’s acts. He describes a cataclysmic event in these verses, with the seafloor erupting and mountains trembling. The whole earth could be moving and through it all, God is still our refuge and our strength.
