What does the priestly clothing symbolize?

Leviticus 8:7 (ESV)

7 And he put the coat on him and tied the sash around his waist and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him and tied the skillfully woven band of the ephod around him, binding it to him with the band.

These distinctive garments did more than just cover the nakedness of the priests. Rather, these clothes gave the priest both dignity and honour. They were visible reminders of the glory and honour of the Lord. These clothes impressed upon the people that the high priest was God's representative and was ready to function in any of the priestly capacities. The priestly garments are described in greater detail in Exodus 28:1–43 and Exodus 39:1–43.
