1. Leviticus 9:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does the word “blessed” mean?

Leviticus 9:22 (ESV)

22 Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them, and he came down from offering the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings.

The word blessed (brk) occurs twice in the concluding verses (Leviticus 9:22–24). The word blessing carries the basic idea of enrichment, endowment, or gift. When the word is used of the Lord blessing his people, it signifies that he enriches them. That blessing often includes the ability to do what God has instructed.
