Cyrene (or Cyrenaica) was in North Africa, west of Egypt. Jewish believers from this city appear to have been involved in bringing the gospel to Antioch (Acts 11:20; Acts 13:1). Alexandria was a prominent city in Egypt. It had a large Jewish population at the time. It was also the home city of Apollos (Acts 18:24). Cilicia was in Asia, to the north of Israel.1
9 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen.
