The Lord had earlier spoken through Isaiah, In three years…the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be very few and feeble
(Isaiah 16:14). Obviously this earlier prophecy of judgment was not enough to break or at least soften Moab’s taunts and boasts against the people of the Lord.1
10 This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they taunted and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts.
