1. Isaiah 16:7–8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Isaiah use imagery of vineyards in the prophecy against Moab?

Isaiah 16:7–8 (ESV)

7 Therefore let Moab wail for Moab, let everyone wail. Mourn, utterly stricken, for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth.

Isaiah uses images of viticulture four times to describe the destruction of Moab. The entire land of Moab was covered in vines. The Moabites would find these images very relatable. After the enemy destroyed all these vineyards, Moab would be deprived of the things in which she delighted.
