Sermon goal of Acts 6:1-7

Acts 6:1–7 (ESV)

1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.

The book of Acts recounts the spread of the early church and the manner in which Christ works to take the gospel from Jerusalem, to Samaria, and finally to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). In your sermon you must explain the origin of the office of deacon, how it is essential for God’s church to have men that organize works of service and promote Christian fellowship. This task was needed so that the minister of the Word could give himself to teaching and prayer, so that he is not overburdened with admin.
